Call Sign Confusion

Harold Best Deveraux entertained readers with the gentle tale of how he flew the lovely old Miles Whitney Straight G-AFGK coast to coast across Canada and the USA, taking in a visit to Oshkosh.

There, having eventually sussed out that G-AFGK was not a Canadian registration, the Tower asked "Ho Golf Kilo... you guys swim across?"

At another airfield in California this exchange took place:

"Canadian Golf Kilo, you are cleared straight in."

"Fox Tower, Roger. We are Golf Golf Kilo -- British."

"Roger British Canadian Golf Kilo."
